Vermiculture

P1030999Vermiculture, also known as worm composting, turns kitchen waste into a rich, dark earthy-smelling, soil conditioner, which you can use to nourish your vegetable garden. It creates a wonderful natural fertiliser that is also good for the environment.

Forres Community Garden now has eight worm boxes. Eventually we will have a box on every pod to enable the use of the worm cast (worm poo) as organic fertiliser for the soil.

To learn more about vermiculture we recommend: Composting with Worms by George Pilkington, and the famous (for anyone interested in worms that is) Worms eat our Garbage by the late Mary Appelhof.
